Electrolysis was invented in 1875 by opthalmologist Dr. Charles E. Michel while attempting to remove ingrown eyelash hairs. The Federal Drug Administration and the American Medical Association recognize electrolysis as the only permanent method of hair removal. Electrolysis permanently destroys hairs by gently delivering a minute current to the base of the hair follicle, or papilla, through a very fine filament-type probe. This is done through the natural opening of the hair follicle, destroying the hair growth tissue and permanently eliminating the hair.
