The St. Louis Tan Company opened its doors in February of 1994. St. Louis native Todd Beckman started his career with two average sized salons which experienced rapid growth allowing Mr. Beckman to introduce the first superstore concept in November of that same year. Providing multiple levels of tanning at an affordable price proved to be an instant success for the tanning industry!
The reaction to this new and innovative tanning concept resulted in record sales and continued growth. The brand quickly evolved and expanded outside of the St. Louis market, and Mr. Beckman decided to rethink The St. Louis Tan Company name to better suit his expanding brand. The decision was made to rename the franchise The TAN Company®.
