Have you ever felt as if your future was predestine? Looking back to 1967 and earlier, I can see now that God was directing me to be a hair stylist. I got my hair set every Thursday morning at 7am by the Most Creative Stylist in Richmond, MO. I would watch her work and go home and duplicate the hair style on my relatives and neighbors. My stylist earned $3.00 per set, I received .25 to free.
After being laid off from my job of 8 years on my daughter's 8th birthday, one of the local barbers ask me to enter Barber School and work in his new shop. My response was " I want a good sitting down, good benefit job with 4 week vacation. I just don't want to work as hard as my stylist or you." By the fall of 1975, an offer of this "So called great JOB" had not come in. But the offer to work for White's Barber Shop was still open. By March 1976, a graduate of Ferrell Academy and new lady barber in town. By May ' 78, a realtor customer wanted me to look at a salon that was available. Again I told destiny " I wasn't interested." But within the month, I was asking a loan officer customer if I could do this. He gave me all the encouragement I needed to take the plunge of owner, manager & barber stylist at 114 S. Thornton. May 1978, Peggy's Barber Salon opened with 1 barber and 3 cosmetologist. As we grew and our customers were waiting in their cars to be able to get a seat in Peggy's, we moved to 201 E. Lexington. Within 5 yrs, I had 5 units rented at that location ( 1st tanning & nail salon in Richmond ,a fitness center, and hair salon).
